POV, 2016
As the Dallas Art Fair 2016 Honoree I was given the opportunity to display my work in a window at Neiman Marcus's flagship store in downtown Dallas. In this site-specific work, I chose to photograph directly into the windows of the store in which the photographs would be displayed one month later. The simple reflective nature of glass surfaces conflated and confused human vision with camera vision. While facing forward I was presented with what was behind me. Resulting juxtapositions, usually filtered out of our perception as bothersome, become immediate, apparent and demanding. The dynamism of urban street life bumps up against the staged pageantry of conspicuous luxury. The thoughful window-shopping viewer is prompted to explore their own act of seeing as they stand in the same location as where the photographs were made.
